Single A

Cubs at Dodgers

It was rivalry week for the kids at Walnut Grove this week.  The Dodgers took on their fellow Road Runners on Wednesday night.  It was a great game with some timely hitting and fine playmaking all around.

The Dodger offense was lead by Logan Seitz and Ryan Haley.  Ryan went 3-3 and scored a run for the home team, while Logan hit the ball hard during every at bat and also scored a run.  Michael Crandall has been hitting the ball well for the last few weeks.  His single in the 1st inning lead to the fifth run of the inning.

The Alsup brothers lead the Dodger defense tonight.  Declan made a great play from right field in the 1st inning, fielding a hard shot to right and gunning down the runner at 1st base.  His brother Garrett followed that up in the 3rd inning at 2nd base, using some exceptional glove work to stop a hard liner and making the force out himself to end a Cubs’ rally.  Justin Fulmer had a great night on the mound for the Dodgers, pitching out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out the last two batters to end the game.

The Cubs offense was lead by Jack Bell and Carson Shea.  Jack batted 4-4 with 2 rbi’s, while Carson hit three singles and scored a big run in the 3rd inning.  Michael McMasters had the hit of the game with a huge double in the 2nd inning.  Jack Bell and Max Jorgenson handled the pitching duties very well for the visitors.

Dodgers at Cardinals

The Cardinals played host to the Dodgers on a bright, sunny Saturday morning.  Ben Wold was clearly the player of the game for the visitors.  He had 2 putouts in the 3rd inning at 3rd base, 2 putouts in the 6th inning at shortstop and put up three strikeouts while pitching an almost perfect 5th inning.  He batted 3-4 at the plate to add to a great game.

Tanner Fehrmann and Gio Cerutti helped lead the offense for the boys in blue.  Tanner hit 2-4 for the Dodgers and scored a big run tying the game in the 5th inning.  Gio also had a good day at the plate, hitting a big single in the 2nd inning and scoring the only Dodger run that inning.

Brad Irish, Brian Glasco and Jackson Butler lead the Cardinal offense.  Brad hit 4-4 and scored 3 runs for the Cards.  Brian batted 3-4 and scored in the 4th inning.  Jackson also went 3-4 and belted a huge double in the 2nd inning bringing in two of his teammates.

Out in the field, it was the O’Sullivan cousins that helped carry the guys in red.  Brendan lead the way with his great glove work and uncanny range, while his cousin Sean closed out the game on the mound, striking out the final two batters without giving up a run.
